• 4,000 degrees Kelvin LED bulbs have no mercury therefore they are less harmful for the environment. They also use plastic instead of glass. This means there is less chance of breakage. *Bulbs on their own are insufficient for light therapy.

These bulbs will function to replace the bulb in an older version of the LUXOR which used a fluorescent glass bulb. In order for a light therapy device to be effective for the relief of winter blues and sleep issues, the user must receive 10,000 Lux of light at eye level. Also, it is best if light shines down from above, similar to the sun.  A bright light therapy unit then, generally, needs to focus the light towards the users eyes, have a large screen and a bright bulb. The idea is to mimic the sun, both in quantity and quality. Northern Lights lamps designs have large UV filter screens to ensure eye safety while also maximizing light at eye level, unlike putting a bulb in a lamp. In comparison, lampshades are made to diffuse light. Additionally, a regular lamp sends light in all directions rather than focusing it to the user. To repeat, one of these bulbs on their own, will not meet the same 10,000 Lux distance. It can be used to increase light levels in the home or office, which can still be enjoyable! Please note while the screw base is a standard size, the bulb is larger than an old style incadescent and many not fit all fixtures.
