Like all our products, Northern Lights’ wall-mounted lamps are designed with clinical, lifestyle and ergonomic considerations front and center. Clinically, research has shown that having your light therapy device shine down on you from above provides the most effective therapeutic exposure, mimicking natural sunlight stimulating the visual system. So, the LiteUp was designed from the ground up to deliver maximum comfort—using super-efficient fluorescent tubes that keep glare and flicker to an absolute minimum—while its height-adjustable legs let you decide exactly how you want to sit while your LiteUp bathes you in 10 000 lux of warm white light at up to 17”.
Sunlight shines down on us from above, starting at a slightly different time each morning, depending on the season. Decades of research have now pinpointed the cells in our eyes that use morning sunlight as the signal that realigns the body’s internal clock (circadian rhythm) throughout the year. Because of this, clinicians tend to believe that bright light therapy works best when delivered from overhead. So, by mounting a light therapy device on your wall, you can ensure that it delivers light from above your line of sight, mimicking morning sunlight.
Clinically speaking, the most important factor in how well bright light therapy treatment works is consistency, so having a setup that you can stick to as part of your daily routine is the best way to ensure that bright light therapy will be a lasting and effective treatment. To that end, the LiteUP’s wall‑mounted design means it will stay exactly where you need it, session after session, letting you dial in the distance, angle, and height that best fits into your daily routine, all while eliminating the guesswork that can come with desk- or floor-lamps. Plus, if you have limited desk or floor space—or if you’re a clinician outfitting a treatment room—the LiteUp can simplify your setup, all while maximizing your work and living space.
The LiteUP’s compact, wall-mountable design is engineered from the ground to provide consistent brightness without the bulky footprint of desk- or floor-lamps. While we offer LED alternatives, the LiteUp uses fluorescent bulbs to maximize visual comfort, producing a broad, even field of warm white light that truly minimizes glare and flicker. The LiteUP delivers a full 10,000 lux of therapeutic brightness, in a form factor that fits almost anywhere.
Notable advantages include:
Secure the LiteUp’s wall-mount just above the spot you’re planning to use for light therapy: about 12” above your natural line of sight, and about 12” in front of where you’ll be sitting. This placement mirrors the angle of morning sunlight, ensuring you get 10,000 lux without ever having to adjust your posture or seating position.
To maximize your bright light therapy results, we recommend using your LiteUp for 20-30 minutes daily, preferably first thing in the morning. There’s no need to look directly into light; simply relax, or go about your daily routine with your LiteUp set roughly 17” (a foot and a half) away. It’s also helpful to keep regular exercise and sleep/wake routines.
For best results, you’ll only need ambient light; there’s no need to stare into the lamp. In fact, you shouldn’t: simply have it positioned above your line of sight while you read, eat breakfast, or work (See Installation and Placement Guidance, above). The wall‑mounted setup makes this easy, as it keeps your LiteUp fixed at the ideal height and angle.
Several clinical‑grade devices, including the LiteUP, are built for wall installation. However, very few can deliver the same level of warm, bright, flicker- and glare-free light at a therapeutic and practical distance.
Some other modern units do include well-mounting hardware, but not all of them will deliver 10,000 lux at a practical distance, nor can they all swivel to make sure your light shines downward at the right angle.
It’s a bright light therapy device engineered to deliver 10,000 lux, while fixed to a wall. We’ve ensured that the LiteUp is powerful enough that, even while positioned 17” away, above eye level, it can still mimic natural morning sunlight.
The LiteUP can achieve full therapeutic intensity when used at the recommended distance. However, as a general rule, the smaller the illuminated surface, the less light you’ll get at a distance. So, the smaller the lamp, the closer you’ll need to be to get 10,000 lux.
Mount it slightly above your line of sight (about 12”), angled downwards at you, and sit about 17” from your LiteUp to make sure it delivers therapeutic lighting conditions.
A wall‑mounted lamp can serve as the foundation of a broader light‑therapy routine. Many users pair the LiteUP with larger desk‑based units like the BOXelite for workday sessions, or with Dawn Simulators to support a more natural morning wake‑up. You can combine these tools to create a flexible setup that’s capable of adapting to your daily routine and environment.
